Here we will discuss how to find the defrost timer (part number 241705102) in your Frigidaire refrigerator. The chances are that your Frigidaire refrigerator is experiencing issues due to a faulty defrost timer.
The defrost timer is located in the automatic defrost control panel that sits on the top liner of your Frigidaire refrigerator. Refer to the figure below to find the defrost timer (The Frigidaire model referenced here is FFTR1814TW8):
Before you attempt to find the defrost timer, you must unplug your refrigerator as a safety precaution. You can access the defrost timer by removing the four screws that secure the control panel to the top liner.
There can be two scenarios where you can have a faulty defrost timer in your Frigidaire refrigerator:
(1) Your Frigidaire refrigerator is stuck in the defrost cycle:
This means that your fridge and freezer will be warm inside. This is because, during the defrost cycle, the defrost heater turns on to melt off the frost. If your defrost timer is stuck in the defrost cycle, it will keep the defrost heater on. Your refrigerator will not produce any cooling at all because the defrost timer is instructing it to keep the defrost heater on.
(2) Your Frigidaire refrigerator is stuck in the freeze cycle:
This means that your freezer will be frozen and cold while your fridge will be warm. This happens due to the freezer continuously getting cooled, which causes it to freeze itself. If the defrost timer is stuck in the freeze cycle, it will never turn on the defrost cycle. Due to the absence of the defrost cycle, the freezer won’t get a chance to melt the frost because the defrost heater never turns on.
In both of these scenarios, it becomes necessary to replace the faulty defrost timer.
Finding the defrost timer in your Frigidaire might be the first step toward solving any issue related to the timer. In most cases, it may be possible to reset the defrost timer, which would fix any problems. However, if resetting the defrost timer does not work, then you may replace the defrost timer since it may be faulty. The location of the defrost timer is straightforward and accessible in the Frigidaire refrigerators. You can find the defrost timer with little effort if you refer to the above figure and follow the directions listed here.
